My Computers

Apple MacBook

April 2015

Display: 12 inch 2304x1440 Retina Display

Processor: 1.1 GHz Intel Core M

Graphics: Intel HD 5100

RAM: 8GB

Storage: 256GB NVMe SSD

Operating System: macOS 10.12 Sierra

Owned since: May 2016

I replaced my 2011 MacBook Pro. This may look like a downgrade, but the size and weight make it worth it to me. It's actually about as fast as my MacBook Pro was, with the exception of graphics performance.

iPad Pro

September 2015

Color: Space Grey

Display: 12.9inch 2732x2048 Retina Display

Processor: Apple A9X

RAM: 4GB

Storage: 128GB

Operating System: iOS 10

Owned since: April 2016

With Apple Pencil. Currently my favorite device for reading, browsing the internet, and taking notes. Completely replaced paper notebooks for me.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3

June 2014

Display: 12.1 inch 2160x1440 Glossy with Pen and Touch

Processor: 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 (Haswell)

Graphics: Intel HD 4600

RAM: 8GB

Storage: 256GB SSD

Operating System: Windows 10 Pro

Owned since: January 2015

Before the Surface, I had a MacBook Air. I wanted to try out a different kind of device, and, to be honest, I didn't really like it. Mostly now I use the iPad Pro or my MacBook, but the surface is still great for a full-featured tablet.

Lenovo Ideapad 100s

Display: 11.6 inch 1366x768 Matte

Processor: Intel Atom

RAM: 2GB

Storage: 32GB SSD

Operating System: Windows 10 Home

Owned since: 2016

I bought this to do some basic Windows things because I didn't like dealing with the Surface's high-dpi display. I need pixel perfect accuracy for some things, and the Surface doesn't give me that if the app I'm using doesn't support High-DPI. It also has amazing battery life.

Samsung ChromeBook 2

Display: 11.6 inch 1366x768 Matte

Processor: Intel Celeron

RAM: 2GB

Storage: 16GB SSD

Operating System: Chrome OS

Owned since: 2015

I bought this to try out Chrome OS, and for my dad to use as well. I use it more as a netbook, as the MacBook is quite heavy, and the Lenovo isn't very powerful.

iPhone 6 Plus

September 2014

Color: Space Grey

Display: 5.5inch 1920x1080 Glossy with Touch

Processor: Apple A8

RAM: 1GB

Storage: 64GB

Operating System: iOS 10

Owned since: February 2014

My phone of choice. I picked the largest possible iPhone, which was a mistake. For me, the phone is just too big. Originally I had a gold one, but when my brother upgraded to the 6s Plus, I used his 64GB phone in place of my 16GB one, which didn't have enough space for me.

Vintage

Apple Power Mac G4 Cube

2001

Display: 17 inch 1600x1200 Apple Studio Monitor (Diamondtron CRT)

RAM: 1GB

Storage: 80GB IDE hard drive

Operating System: Mac OS 9.2.2, Mac OS X 10.1.5

Owned since: 2015

Ah, the G4 Cube. One of Apple's most iconic early 2000s designs. I love this thing. It looks fantastic. I have the matching monitor and set of Harman/Kardon speakers as well. It's a beautiful thing to look at.

Apple Power Mac G4 Cube

2001

Processor: 400MHz Power PC G4

Graphics: ATI Rage 128 16MB

RAM: 128MB

Storage: 60GB IDE hard drive

Operating System: Mac OS 9.0.4

Owned since: 2015

I bought a second G4 Cube because it came with the monitor, mouse, and keyboard. The OS 9 installer CD is stuck in the drive though.

Apple PowerBook G4 Titanium DVI

2002

Display: 15.2 inch 1280x854 matte

Processor: 600MHz Power PC G4

Graphics:

RAM: 128MB

Storage: 32GB IDE SSD

Operating System: Mac OS 10.4.11

Owned since: 2013

Another one of Apple's iconic designs. The PowerBook G4 was the first to have the lit Apple logo on the back. It's hard to find one that isn't completely scratched up.

Apple iMac G3 Snow DV SE +

2002

Display: 15 inch 1024x768 shadow mask CRT

Processor: 600MHz Power PC G3

Graphics:

RAM: 512MB

Storage: 80GB IDE hard drive

Operating System: Mac OS 10.4.11

Owned since: 2011

My first vintage computer. The hard drive died.

Apple Macintosh SE

1987

Display: 9 inch 512x342 monochrome CRT

Processor: 16MHz 68020 (Radius Accellerator)

Graphics:

RAM: 4MB

Storage: 1.44MB FDD

Operating System: Macintosh System 6.08

Owned since: 2012

Because an original Mac is too expensive. Apple's Snow White design language is seen here. One my the floppy drives is broken on mine, but it has a Radius Accelerator card installed, so I can't just get rid of the thing.

Apple Newton eMate 300

1997

Operating System: Newton OS 2.1

Owned since: 2012

What can I say about it? It's the eMate.

IBM ThinkPad 570e

1999

Display: 13.3 inch 1024x768 matte

Processor: Intel Mobile Pentium III

Graphics:

RAM: 128MB

Storage: A hard drive

Operating System: Windows 98

ThinkPads are my favorite non-Apple laptops. They're made well, easily, accessible, and have excellent keyboards.
